PRESS RELEASE - OCTOBER 2017 - Purdy's Pop-up is Sell Out Success

IMG_1682.JPG

Ever since performing at Henley Festival and the fantastic feedback she received, Purdy has longed to bring that same vibrance and standard of music to locals in Henley on a regular basis and for the past 3 months, has been doing just that to a sell out crowd.

Purdy's Pop-up as they have been coined are held on the first Saturday of every month a HOADS Studio in Henley-on-Thames. The jazz, blues, swing, crossover and pop sounds are set in a friendly, cosy atmosphere around round candle-lit tables to create a speak easy jazz club from another time.

The line-up is different each time, with Purdy inviting special guests each time from the crème de la crème of her musical friends. December 2nd Purdy's Pop-Up is host to arguably one of the finest jazz club in Europe; Chelsea's 606 Club. Head lining will be Georgina Jackson, fresh from supporting Radio 2's Clare Teal at The Royal Albert Hall. Joined by 606's founder, Steve Rubie and Purdy herself, Purdy is creating a night to remember for any local music fans.

Tickets are in short supply, so if you're unable to get a ticket for 2nd December, then fear not as Purdy returns for a New Years Eve Extravaganza with her  Pop Up Family - Hugh Turner on guitar, Ralph Misraki on Bass and Stu Henderson on Trumpet Percussion and backing vocals. Seeing in 2018 with Purdy includes a complimentary glass of Prosecco & canapés upon arrival and promises an evening of sensational music, dancing and even a DJ who will take friends into the New Year in the style and vigour these nights have become known for. Early Bird tickets are now on sale from www.purdymusic.co.uk

As if this wasn't enough, Purdy has been busy releasing her new Double A-Side "Too in Love with Love" which is out now on limited edition numbered vinyl and digital download.

Both tracks were recorded in the same studio as The Beatles back in 1969 (Studio 2 at Abbey Road) with a 30 strong orchestra. The recording session can be seen in her new video of "How Did You Do That?".

"How Did You Do That?" recorded at Abbey Road Studios in Studio 2, favoured by The Beatles.

When asked about the influences behind the tracks Purdy explains that "How did you do that" is about falling in love when you least expect it or even want to. It's the inner emotion of "How did you do that?" - but you don’t want it to stop - "Do it again". "Too in Love with Love" comes from "feeling a little hopeless about the world, realising just how much loveless behaviour we become exposed to from day to day, but when I sing this song it feels positive and reminds me and hopefully others not to give up on the thing that makes this life truly beautiful."

Purdy's track “Dream in Colour” from her album “Diamond in the Dust received almost 200,000 plays on Spotify with zero marketing budget. With influences such as Julie London, Peggy Lee and Nancy Sinatra, Purdy is also touring across the UK with her incredibly vibrant speakeasy Pop-ups. This all started due to a hugely well received launch night behind a little secret door in Purdy's home town of Henley-on-Thames. Tickets as well as Purdy's new tracks on vinyl and digital can be bought from the Purdy Store before general release on 20th October.

We would to invite journalists to be our guests to one of Purdy's gigs (subject to availability), so if you would like a press ticket, please contact  management@purdymusic.co.uk stating where you would like to join.

PRESS RELEASE - OCTOBER 2017 - Purdy's Halloween Special Treat

IMG_1682.JPG

A year on from touring with Jools Holland, Purdy has released a special Halloween edition video of her song "My Creation" with clips from some of her favourite A & B Movie horror films dating back from the 30's.

It's a great time of year to re-live these movies which include Frankenstein (1931), White Zombie (1932), Carnival of Souls (1962) and The Undead (1957) that help to encapsulate the theme of the song of creating an idea of something in someone that doesn't actually exist. In effect a monster.

This comes just a week after Purdy released her double A-Side "Too in Love", she recorded in the same studio as The Beatles back in 1969 (Studio 2 at Abbey Road) with a 30 strong orchestra. These are now available on vinyl and digital. The recording session can be seen in her new video of "How Did You Do That?".

The Jazz influenced singer/songwriter whose music has been described by Craig Charles (BBC Radio 4) as “so slinky it shouldn’t be allowed. Last year Purdy supported Jools Holland on tour with dates including a stop at the Royal Albert Hall. She has sung alongside Jamie Cullum at Cheltenham Jazz Festival and supported Lana Del Ray at a concert on Necker Island and recently presented and performed at the West London Music Festival alongside Mica Paris and now she has released two beautiful new tracks in the lead up to her second album due for release in 2018.

(PRESS RELEASE - SEPTEMBER 2017) Purdy takes her SpeakEasy Jazz Club on the road

Purdy Pop-up.png

A year on from touring with Jools Holland, Purdy has built her own record label from which she will release her double A-side limited edition vinyl on 30th September and all other formats early November. She is literally popping-up around the country to give live music lovers (to quote Craig Charles of BBC Radio 4) a taste of her “so slinky it shouldn’t be allowed” sound.

Purdy has now performed at Wembley stadium in front of a crowd of 90,000, supported Jools Holland on tour including the Royal Albert Hall, sung alongside Jamie Cullum at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, supported Lana Del Ray at a concert on Necker Island and recently presented and performed at the West London Music Festival alongside Mica Paris.

With influences such as Julie London, Peggy Lee and Nancy Sinatra, Purdy is busy penning her second album as well as touring across the UK in small, intimate venues to take fans into her world with this speakeasy vibe. This all started due to a hugely well received launch night behind a little secret door in Henley on Thames where Purdy will be returning every first Saturday of the month with special guests from the cream of the Jazz, Blues and Crossover music world!

Purdy grew up on the Nettlebed Estate near Henley where her Dad was farmer to the Fleming Family. The stately home that once housed Ian Fleming and his family is now owned by the Sue Ryder Foundation and Purdy recently sang to the patients of the hospice which spurred her on to become more involved with her home community and so decided to set up a pop-up club of her own in neighbouring Henley-on-Thames. Her desire was to echo the fun and nostalgia of the old Jazz club that once buzzed in the Market Square. The feedback was so fantastic, Purdy has decided to make it a regular event.

You can listen to her yet unreleased TOO IN LOVE WITH LOVE double a-side here. Pre-orders are now available and will be shipped at the end of September for it’s official release.

If you would like a copy of the vinyl, or Purdy's first album 'Diamond in the Dust', we would be happy to send you one in the post, so please let us know.
